A LIFE MORE WILD

A comprehensive approach to living a more complete, connected and intentional life

A Life More Wild came from the realisation that there was something…

…missing.

In our experience of working and living in the outdoors over the past 15 years we have gathered a wide skillset  –  but also found connections and knowledge that went far beyond that outdoor work and recreation.

I desperately wanted to live a life in The Great Outdoors - but when I found it, I realised that I was missing out on a much bigger picture.

By separating myself from the landscape, and trying to control my reactions to it... I was becoming a passenger in my own life.

This is our comprehensive approach to living a more complete, intentional life.

We are working out how to do this for ourselves –  and we want to share that journey with you.

It is more than just training courses and online tutorials – it is honest, authentic content and community-led learning.

It covers everything from outdoor safety through to developing personal and family resilience – and integrating these essential skills into every aspect of your life.

Knowledge and understanding do not sit in isolation – they should bleed into other areas of your life.

Skills honed in the mountains or forests can be used in every day life.

By taking a holistic approach to personal skill development we find different ways to learn, and discover new connections to the landscape, and to other people.

How to live A Life More Wild

We have developed an approach that allows people to learn in the way that we ourselves learned – a combination of expert instruction, access to content that we can digest at our own speed and by finding peers that we can learn alongside.

A significant part of our content is free to access via our website and content channels, and we have created an online community where knowledge can be shared, discussed and learnt alongside others.

We also offer in-person training events, ranging from short courses through to skills development trips and 1-1 training.

The 10 Principles

We have compiled principles to guide, inspire and share what we have learnt over the years. This list embodies what we think it means to live A Life More Wild, all have been carefully curated for you….and us.

Knowing where our food came from – and how it came to be on our plate – was an intrinsic part of life for our ancestors.

Since the Industrial Revolution, and particularly the introduction of modern farming methods in the 20th Century, we have become increasingly disconnected from the food and drink that we consume daily.

There is a cost to growing and harvesting food – whether animal, vegetable or grain. By acknowledging that cost and becoming more aware of our sources of food we can form a greater understanding of the world around us.

It is tempting to focus on any one particular set of skills and try to to fully understand it – but things are rarely that simple.

By putting all of your efforts and time into attaining mastery of any particular skill you will inevitably end up in a situation where you are an expert in the wrong thing. A generalist will find more places to be useful than a specialist, and true competence comes from embracing as many variations as possible.

We are firm believers that you CAN learn on your own – but it is often a long and arduous process.

A hybrid approach is often best, blending personal learning and experimentation with observing others and going through a structure process.

Are you a stranger in the landscape you move through, or can you read it like a book?

Landscape Literacy is a way of grouping the skills required to interpret a landscape – whether it is the geology and
