Ask An Instructor : Flint and Steel or Ferro Rod

1st February 2024

In another episode of the ‘Ask an Instructor’ series Richard Prideaux answers a question inspired by the TV series ‘Alone’…or rather the commentary episode recorded for Modern Outdoor Survival about the UK spin-off of this popular American reality show.

Aaron in Georgia (the American one) sent in this question: “Which is better to use and carry – a ferro rod/firesteel or a flint and steel?”

He may not have been expecting quite the answer which Richard gave.
