The Intermediate Forest Survival (L2) Course from Original Outdoors is a more advanced forest and woodland environment survival training course based in the UK.
Subjects covered in outdoor sessions:
- Medium-term shelters using natural and synthetic materials
- Firelighting using a variety of techniques in all conditions
- Survival foraging, trapping and hunting
- Water filtration and purification
- Extended use of cordage and knots
- Prevention and treatment of hypothermia and other environmental hazards
- Safe use of simple cutting tools
- Equipment choice and use
- Signalling for help and preparing for rescue
- Emergency techniques
This intermediate forest survival training course is delivered by experienced and qualified instructors with military, emergency services or expedition backgrounds.

The Intermediate Forest Survival (L2) Course is delivered as a three-day course for standalone training, or can be combined with other training as a bespoke course.
The course is delivered entirely in the field and can be delivered on-site if required (assuming a suitable location can be offered by the client).
The course can be delivered at a maximum 1:10 ratio.
Course Dates and Bookings
This course is most often run directly for a client, either on site or at our location in North Wales. As a standalone course it takes three days to complete.

EST Course Classification
Training Level: Level Two
Terrain Level: T5 Mountainous and moorland terrain above 600m ASL, forested and densely vegetated areas above 300m ASL OR T3-T4 terrain more than 1.5 km from point of normal vehicle access
Training Streams: Survival
Search and rescue teams, security professionals, individuals, clubs and construction companies.
This is a Level 2 EST Framework course where some previous subject experience is required.
Delegates will need to have completed the L1 Forest Survival Course or equivalent.
A good level of general fitness is preferred due to the moderately active nature of parts of the course (walking with rucksack, sleeping on the ground etc)
The course price includes some equipment for the client to use and keep following the course. The aim of this course is to focus more on learning, not suffering so you will need to bring some equipment with you.
General outdoor clothing is required for the duration of the course – we can send a course-specific equipment list on request, and full information will be sent out once a booking has been confirmed.
