Remote Area Operations Manager Course (L3)

Training for management and supervision of remote area and lone working operations within hazardous outdoor environments for businesses, teams and individuals as part of a structured training programme.

Course Content

The Remote Area Operations Manager (L3) Course from Original Outdoors provides training in managing lone workers and teams operating in remote areas (T1-T8 terrain).

Subjects covered in classroom and exercise sessions:

  • Developing and using Normal Operations Plans (NOPs) and Emergency Action Plans (EAPs)
  • Remote monitoring of workers and teams
  • Use of GPS, apps and other technologies (including digital mapping)
  • Pre-planning and PPE choice
  • Medical and rescue provision
  • Improvised and planned SAR for lost or injured personnel

This Remote Area Operations Manager training course is delivered by experienced and qualified instructors with military, emergency services or expedition leadership backgrounds.

Course Delivery

The Remote Area Operations Manager (L3) Course is delivered as a two-day course for standalone training, or can be combined with other training as a bespoke course.
The course involves a combination of classroom and field training and can be delivered on-site if required.
The course can be delivered at a maximum 1:15 ratio.

Course Prerequisites

This is a Level 3 EST Framework course where some previous subject experience is required.

Delegates will need to have completed the Remote Area and Lone Working (L1) course or equivalent within the last 3 years and have experience of managing off-site teams.

A good level of general fitness is preferred due to the moderately active nature of parts of the course (walking with rucksack etc), but the course mainly takes place in a classroom setting.

Equipment Required

For private and bespoke courses we will work with your existing PPE (with a required minimum level of protection for the environment we will be training in). We can also provide external evaluation of your existing PPE, and make recommendations if you request it.
