Wilderness Skills Challenge

Original Outdoors Wilderness Skills Challenge

Multi-Day woodland survival challenge held in North Wales

£150.00 per person

bushcraft survival course walesThe Original Outdoors Wilderness Skills Challenge takes place in our private woodland in North Wales. It has been created to allow participants to test their outdoor and bushcraft skills and resilience in a wider environment and with minimal equipment.

In the U.K. it can be difficult to find a place to practice real wilderness woodland skills over several days, with the freedom to light fires, build shelters and indulge in other aspects of bushcraft. The course begins on Friday morning and finishes at Sunday midday.

A strict kit list will be enforced and although a safety team will be on hand all participants will need to use their own skills and problem-solving abilities to perform a set number of wilderness skills tasks.

To successfully complete the challenge each participant must:

  • Build a sturdy and appropriate shelter from natural materials
  • Demonstrate two distinct firelighting methods
  • Safely gather and filter/purify all water required
  • Make at least two camp tools/items
  • Find four edible plants
  • Identify at least one game/wildlife trail
  • Build a viable snare or trap
  • Show competent personal outdoor safety skills
  • Demonstrate a respect for the natural environment and other users
Challenge Venue

The Original Outdoors Wilderness Skills challenge is run in a private 90-acre woodland in North Wales, just outside the town of Ruthin in Denbighshire and on the edge of Clocaenog Forest. A mixture of coniferous and deciduous tree cover, plus a limestone gorge, river and access to clearings and meadows ensure that challenge participants can make the very most of the available natural resources. Full joining instructions, including kit list, meeting points and other information will be sent once bookings have been confirmed.

Challenge Timings

The Original Outdoors Wilderness Skills Challenge runs from a Friday morning to a Sunday midday. The challenge does not have strict timings once it has begun, but the limitations of daylight and fatigue will need to be planned for by participants:
