Natural Shelters Masterclass – 2nd December 2017

Natural Shelters Masterclass – 2nd December 2017

£25.00 Per Person

Course Description

Natural Shelter-Building Masterclass

Bushcraft shelter course as part of the Adventure Programme

£25.00 per person

For the December 2017 session of the Original Outdoors Adventure Programme we will be looking at the planning, techniques and potential problems of building shelters from natural materials in woodlands and elsewhere.

We will spend the day in a private woodland near Ruthin in the Vale of Clwyd AONB. We run several of our bushcraft and wilderness skills courses here and it offers a good selection of materials to build shelters from, plus sloping ground, undergrowth, rocks and other difficult areas that can make the job of building a lean-to, litter shelter or anything else much harder.

The course is delivered by Richard Prideaux – an experienced bushcraft and wilderness skills instructor and veteran of many, many comfortable AND uncomfortable nights out under natural or improvised shelters.

The course start at 9:00am and finishes at around 3-4:00pm.

See below for more information.

The Adventure Programme from Original Outdoors is new for 2018. It’s a monthly selection of unique training days and outdoor adventures from the instructor team at Original Outdoors.

Course Location

This session of the Original Outdoors Adventure Programme takes place on the edge of Clocaenog Forest in the Clwydian Range AONB near the market town of Ruthin.
Full joining instructions and meeting point will be sent out by email after you book a place.

Equipment List

You will need to bring as a minimum:
  • Warm and waterproof clothing
  • Good walking footwear such as walking boots/shoes
  • Food and drink for the day (no food included on the AP sessions)
  • Notepad and pen/pencil
You may also wish to bring the following, although there will be group items to use:
  • Knife/Saw/Axe/Hatchet
  • Paracord or strong cord

Can I bring children?

Children are welcome if they are with a legal parent or guardian and old enough to participate in the course throughout the day.

Can I bring a dog?

Yes – but it will have to be on a lead at all times and be well behaved. You are responsible for your own dog at all times.

How fit do I need to be?

There is a walk-in from the parking area of around 1 mile, plus a short steep uphill walk along a track. You will also be on your feet for most of the day, but plenty of opportunity to rest when you need to. The focus of the day is on making the most of the resources and using skill to replace physical exertion where possible.
