Intermediate Remote Area and Lone Working Course (L2)
Advanced Lone Worker and Remote Area outdoor safety training for businesses, teams and individuals as part of a structured training programme.
The Intermediate Remote Area and Lone Working (L2) Course from Original Outdoors provides training in emergency techniques and general outdoor safety for lone workers in remote areas (T1-T8 terrain) or where they are working in outdoor environments for significant periods.
Subjects covered in classroom and exercise sessions:
- Navigation techniques and strategies on and off site (including GPS)
- Position Formats, Latitude/Longitude and working with mapping
- Emergency shelters, fire and improvised techniques
- Awareness and treatment of hypothermia, hyperthermia and prevention of heat and cold injuries
- Use of PPE for protection against weather and temperature hazards
- Emergency procedures for lost equipment and missing personnel
- Strategies to deal with becoming lost or immobile
- Working with Normal Operation Plans and Emergency Action Plans
- Awareness of working near water and falls from height
This Intermediate Remote Area and Lone Worker training course is delivered by experienced and qualified instructors with military, emergency services or expedition leadership backgrounds.

The Intermediate Remote Area and Lone Working (L2) Course is delivered as a two-day course for standalone training, or can be combined with other training as a bespoke course.
The course involves a combination of classroom and field training and can be delivered on-site if required.
The course can be delivered at a maximum 1:10 ratio.

This course is most often run directly for a client, either on site or at our location in North Wales. As a standalone course it takes two days to complete.

EST Course Classification
Search and rescue teams, security professionals, Urban SAR, ecological consultants and construction companies.
This is a Level 2 EST Framework course where some previous subject experience is required.
Delegates will need to have completed the Remote Area and Lone Working (L1) course or equivalent within the last 3 years.
A good level of general fitness is preferred due to the moderately active nature of parts of the course (walking with rucksack etc)
For private and bespoke courses we will work with your existing PPE (with a required minimum level of protection for the environment we will be training in). We can also provide external evaluation of your existing PPE, and make recommendations if you request it.
