Course Content

The Camp Manager (L3) Course from Original Outdoors is an assessed basecamp and expedition camp planning, creation and management course based in the UK.

Subjects covered in classroom and exercise sessions:

  • Planning and siting basecamps
  • Pre-trip planning and logistics for camps
  • Camp sanitation strategies
  • Food and cooking in different environments
  • Made vs bought for camp infrastructure
  • Choosing and erecting portable shelters of all types
  • Strategies for extreme temperatures and altitudes
  • Medical provision
  • Emergency planning, NOPs and EAPs

This camp management training course is delivered by experienced and qualified instructors with military, emergency services or expedition backgrounds.

Course Delivery

The Camp Manager (L3) Course is delivered as a four-day course with assessment as part of the course.
The course is delivered entirely in the field and can be delivered on-site if required (assuming a suitable location can be offered by the client).
The course can be delivered at a maximum 1:10 ratio.

Course Dates and Bookings

This course is most often run directly for a client, either on site (with a suitable location) or at our location in North Wales. As a standalone course it takes four days to complete.

Course Prerequisites

This is a Level 3 EST Framework course where extensive previous subject experience is required.

Delegates will have need to have completed the L2 Advanced Campcraft course, the Woodmaster course or equivalent.

A good level of general fitness is preferred due to the moderately active nature of parts of the course (walking with rucksack, sleeping on the ground etc)

Equipment Required

The course price includes some equipment for the client to use and keep following the course. The aim of this course is to focus more on learning, not suffering so you will need to bring some equipment with you.

General outdoor clothing is required for the duration of the course – we can send a course-specific equipment list on request, and full information will be sent out once a booking has been confirmed.
