Level 3 Survival and Outdoor Training Courses within the EST structured training programme from Original Outdoors

Level Three EST courses require significant previous subject experience and evidence of previous experience may be required. Level Three courses require a form of assessment – please see details on the course page.

EST Training Classification System

EST Terrain Classification System
|EST T1||1||Urban and peri-urban areas where hard surfaces, buildings, street lighting and utilities are present|
|EST T2||2||Gardens and enclosed fields, parkland, hedgerows and small woodlands. Mixed surfaces.|
|EST T3||3||Large areas of vegetation with limited tracks and access, including heathland and forests below 300m above sea level (ASL)|
|EST T4||4||Moorland and rolling, open farmland and unenclosed areas below 600m above sea level|
|EST T5||5||Mountainous and moorland terrain above 600m ASL, forested and densely vegetated areas above 300m ASL OR T3-T4 terrain more than 1.5 km from point of normal vehicle access|
|EST T6||6||Areas 3-5m from a significant area of moving or still water OR a steep drop of more than 1.8m|
|EST T7||7||Areas less than 3m from a significant area of moving or still water OR a steep drop of more than 1.8m|
|EST T8||8||All areas T1-T7 where permanent or temporary environmental factors make it significantly more hazardous than the average conditions for the average UK/temperate classification of that terrain (desert/arctic/high altitude/jungle/etc)|
