This page is for instructions on how to get to the parking area at the edge of a private woodland near the village of Bontuchel, Denbighshire. We use this parking area for some of our courses.
The parking area is a small gravelled triangle on a minor road, at the bottom of a steep and twisting hill. There is no specific postcode that will take you to the location but the link and the map below will take you to the exact location if you are navigating using a mobile device.
If you are navigating manually then you will probably be arriving via Ruthin or Denbigh:
From Ruthin take the B5105 (signposted for Cerrigydudion). After passing Ye Olde Cross Keys pub there is a turning on your right for Bontuchel and Cyfflliog. Take it and drive up over the hill and down the other side to the village of Bontuchel.
There is a large, stone bridge on your right – follow that road then take the next right which is about 100m up the hill, on a sharp bend. Follow that road for a few hundred metres and you will see the parking area is on the right, just as that road starts to climb a steep hill.
Please note – this is a fairly twisting and arduous route along poorly maintained back roads. If you would prefer a simpler, smoother journey then head to Ruthin first and follow the directions above.
From Denbigh take the A525 towards Ruthin. After Pentre Llanrhaeadr take the 4th turning on the right (if you reach Rhewl you have gone too far). This is a minor road and climbs up over a hill past several farms before descending back into the Bontuchel valley. Partway down the hill you will pass a white farm with several large outbuildings on your left, and then a driveway on the right. You will descend down a steep, slightly curving road and the parking area is at the bottom of the next section of the hill (after a couple of tight bends).
